Zaren was a student at the guardian academy. He befriended Chuck and he likes Ronin. He calls Max Griffin a "little traitor" and seems to dislike him. Zaren dies when he is captured by the Grouls.

Zaren was one of the students at the academy who was supposed to take the entrance test. However, he was captured and presumably killed by the grouls.

- It is never made clear if Zaren was another illusion conjured by Max.
