Ronin was among the many students Vigo trained in The Academy before his resignation. As his best student, she was eventually offered a position among the Guardian Council, and the youngest to ever accomplish such a feat. Despite this, however, Ronin believed joining the ranks of very powerful stonekeepers would be too great of a responsibility for her young age, and declined.
Many years later, during an alleged test for a spot on the Guardian Council, Ronin's likeness (as Max's illusion) appears to Emily Hayes. She seems indifferent to the ongoing conflict between Max Griffin and Pierce, but also steps in at one point to prevent Pierce from hurting Max. Throughout the test, she helps guide Emily to the end of the hall, but both her and Pierce turn to stone once they get there, revealing that they had actually been dead the entire time, and Max had been using their likeliness to get Emily to help him reach the Mother Stone.
