People hate her? Not her fault she and her whole family was brutally murdered for nothing.
Honestly, in my opinion, Kazu did not develop Emily well in the later books. I adore her, only surpassed by Trellis, but she as the main character was not treated with the same care and development he was. I wish Emily had more vulnerability, was able to move past her unhealthy efforts to carry everything and everyone’s problems on her shoulders, learn to accept help and acknowledge her own weaknesses more. Instead, Kazu tried the whole “super strong female character,” rather than a super strong female character who is allowed to fail, struggle, and need help from the people she loves and trusts. Trellis wasn’t even able to fulfill the job she gave him. “Find her family and bring her back.” Instead Kazu quite literally, and pardon my phrasing, screwed her and Trellis over with that choice to have her crush all the problems she had on her own. I love Kazu and all but Supernova was not a good book.
Honestly, I couldn’t agree with you more. I adore Kazu, but book eight has to be my least favorite by far, and I feel like just doesn’t fit in with the rest of the books, and just doesn’t make sense. And yes, there are people who hate Layra. I’ve seen some people on some of the forums talk about how they don’t like Layra, but that’s still their opinion and I’m not going to bash them for that. In all honesty though, I thought Max was a good villain, but some people seem to think he’s this misunderstood good guy who was fighting for Layra’s sake, and I just cannot buy into that.
